Chāndogya Upaniṣad contains the earliest Indian view of the elements. There are three: 1) fire ( ), 2) water ( ), & 3) earth ( pṛthivībhūmiprāṇa (breath); and earth into feces, flesh, and mind. The three elements of the Chāndogya Upaniṣad effectively correspond to the three guṇasBhagavad Gita, with a change in sequence.
